There are no Obidients in Ebonyi State, Minister Umahi declares

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has urged the people of Ebonyi State and the wider South East region to rally behind President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the 2025 OHANIVO New Yam Celebration in Ebonyi, the former governor dismissed the influence of Labour Party supporters, popularly known as the Obidient movement, in the state.

“There is no Obidient supporter in Ebonyi State. The last election was a disgrace, but in 2027, we will be wiser,” Umahi declared to loud applause from attendees.

He highlighted a series of infrastructural projects initiated under President Tinubu’s administration, stressing that the South East, and Ebonyi in particular, had recorded tangible benefits. According to him, such gains are reasons for the region to back the president’s re-election bid.

Umahi, who has remained one of the strongest political voices from the South East in Tinubu’s cabinet, assured that the president’s ongoing projects would further address long-standing infrastructural deficits in the region.

Umahi’s comments seem to hover on the line of INEC regulations which stipulate that campaigning shouldn’t occur outside the designated time.
