Tinubu appoints replacement as govt official rejects appointment
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Yusuf Mohammed Yusuf to serve as a commissioner in the Nigerian Law Reform Commission.
This follows the rejection of the offer by Professor Fatima Alkali.
Alkali was earlier nominated on June 2, 2025, but rejected the appointment and did not appear before the Senate for screening.
Her decision was officially communicated to the presidency.
In a letter read during Wednesday’s plenary, Tinubu asked the Senate to consider and approve Yusuf’s nomination.
The request was made under Section 21 of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission Act, 2022.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has directed the matter to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters for review.
The committee is expected to screen the nominee and present its report to the Senate later.
