Tinubu Makes Fresh Announcement

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has  called for a major revamp of global institutions, including the UN, IMF, and Western financial and healthcare systems, during his speech at the BRICS Summit in Rio on July 6, 2025.

He spoke further on the unfair challenges Africa faces contributing little to global emissions but suffering the most and added that there was a  need for cooperation, fair access to funding, sustainable technology transfers, and climate justice initiatives like the African Carbon Market and the Great Green Wall.

Tinubu also added that BRICS must champion people-centered solutions, sustainable development, and South–South cooperation, pushing developed nations to support emerging economies in healthcare, climate action, debt relief, and financial restructuring.

He described BRICS as more than an economic alliance, it should be a beacon of innovation and solidarity ahead of COP‑30. Nigeria was represented at the summit as a newly admitted BRICS partner country, alongside others like Belarus, Malaysia, and Uganda.
