Tinubu makes new request from National Assembly

President Bola Tinubu has written to the National Assembly requesting the confirmation of key appointments in Rivers State as part of ongoing efforts under the state of emergency declared in the state.

In his letter addressed to the Senate, the president asked lawmakers to confirm the appointment of the chairman and six members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The nominees were recommended by the sole administrator currently overseeing the state’s affairs.

Tinubu noted that the appointments were crucial for the smooth running of the state during the emergency period.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring that the Rivers State administrator is supported by the necessary institutions to carry out governance effectively during this time.

The president’s request also included confirmation for appointments into other state bodies such as the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Board, Rivers State Civil Service Commission, and the Rivers State Local Government Civil Service Commission.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, after reading the letter during Thursday’s plenary, directed that the matter be referred to the ad hoc committee on the emergency rule in Rivers State.

The committee is expected to report back to the Senate within one week.
