President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former Nigerian leader passed away in London at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after battling a prolonged illness.
In response to the news, President Tinubu expressed his deep sorrow and personally reached out to Buhari’s widow, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, to offer his condolences.
He described Buhari’s death as a painful loss to the nation.
The President has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
President Tinubu also ordered that national flags be flown at half-staff across the country in honour of the late leader.
Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, after previously holding office as military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985.
