I resigned voluntarily, not sacked – Ex TRCN boss, Ajiboye

Former Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Prof. Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye, has cleared the air on reports that he was dismissed by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement on Tuesday, he revealed that he left the position on his own in August 2024, after completing his term, and was not sacked.

Ajiboye made this known following the circulation of a report suggesting that the president removed him from office.

According to him, he had already concluded his service with TRCN after eight years and had returned to his teaching job at the University of Ibadan on September 1, 2024.

He also mentioned that before leaving, he handed over the leadership of the agency to the most senior official at TRCN.

This arrangement lasted until the federal government named Mrs. Ronke Soyombo as the new Registrar.

The former Registrar said that the Federal Ministry of Education had received and acknowledged his handover letter, and that the process was conducted in line with proper administrative procedures.

During his time at TRCN, Ajiboye was known for pushing for better standards in the teaching profession and helping to shape the Council’s role in Nigeria’s education system.

He served two terms before stepping aside to resume his academic career.
