Tinubu Sends Shettima on assignment

Vice President Kashim Shettima has been directed by President Bola Tinubu to represent Nigeria at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The global gathering is scheduled to take place from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025.

The Vice President will join world leaders at the opening session marking the 80th anniversary of the UN on September 22 at its headquarters in New York.

He is also expected to take part in the high-level general debates, which will run from September 23 to 28.

Shettima is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm, New York time, on behalf of President Tinubu.

On the same day, he will also attend a special climate event for Heads of State and Government hosted by the UN Secretary-General, where Nigeria plans to present its new commitments under the Paris Agreement.

In addition, the Vice President will participate in a high-level roundtable on affordable housing hosted by the President of Kenya on September 24.

He is also expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings and attend other international engagements during the week.

Following the conclusion of UNGA, Shettima will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for discussions with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
