President Bola Tinubu will visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, instead of his earlier planned trip to Kaduna.
This change comes as the President prepares to directly address the ongoing violence that has left many people dead and several communities in distress.
The visit is meant to help the President understand the crisis more closely and speak with those affected.
He is expected to meet with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, youth representatives, and other key groups to find a lasting way forward.
Ahead of the visit, top officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, and security chiefs have been sent to Benue to make necessary arrangements.
Leaders of defence committees from both the Senate and House of Representatives are also involved in the mission.
A town hall meeting will be part of President Tinubu’s trip, where all concerned parties are expected to speak on the crisis and how to restore peace.
Before now, Tinubu had expressed his sadness over the continuous killings in Benue and asked both leaders and residents to choose peace over violence.
He had also sent condolences to families and individuals who lost loved ones or property.
The President was earlier billed to be in Kaduna on Wednesday to commission some projects, but that visit has been moved to Thursday, June 19, 2025.
