Tinubu’s appointee resigns

The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Bola Oyebamiji has resigned from his position.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Oyebamiji as NIWA MD on 25 October 2023, naming him to lead the agency under his marine and blue economy agenda.

He has now resigned to pursue his ambition in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Oyebamiji who announced his resignation on Friday said he took the decision in compliance with the electoral law, which requires public office holders to step down before contesting in elections.

A source close to the former NIWA boss said his decision is connected to his plans to participate fully in the upcoming polls.

Before leading NIWA, Oyebamiji served Osun State in various capacities, including two terms as Commissioner for Finance and later as Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

His career also spans banking, economics, public administration, and politics, giving him extensive experience in both governance and administration.
