Tinubu’s minister resigns
Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office.
This follows mounting allegations of certificate forgery and pressure from civic groups and political actors.
Nnaji, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023, tendered his resignation on Monday in a letter thanking the President for the opportunity to serve the country.
He said he had been a target of blackmail from political opponents.
His resignation comes after weeks of controversy surrounding his academic and NYSC credentials.
A civil society group, Global Gender Safety & Moral Development (GGSMD), had accused him of submitting forged certificates from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Both institutions reportedly disowned the documents attributed to them.
In response, Nnaji filed a lawsuit asking a Federal High Court to compel UNN to release his academic transcript and restrain the university from tampering with his records.
The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025, is scheduled to continue on November 10, 2025.
Despite his denials, pressure had mounted on the Presidency to remove him, with civic groups, opposition parties, and professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association’s Anti-Corruption Committee calling for his suspension and investigation.
President Tinubu has accepted Nnaji’s resignation, thanked him for his service, and wished him well in future endeavours.
