Top politician withdraws from 2027 presidential race over zoning arrangement

Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed has withdrawn from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2027 presidential race as the party decided to zone its ticket to the South.

The governor, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, said his decision was part of a collective plan to ensure unity and fairness within the party.

He was actively involved in the party’s decision-making, including the National Executive Committee meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, and the arrangement to maintain the existing zoning formula for party offices while allocating the presidential ticket to the South South region.

Mohammed explained that his withdrawal reflects a focus on national development and party interest over personal ambition.

He said the decision allows other members to pursue their political goals and ensures the party provides opportunities for its members to achieve their aspirations.

He said: “I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part of it, from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery.

“It’s an all inclusive decision for us to have our NEC in Ibadan, Oyo State and sustain the existing zoning formula in the party offices and to zone the presidential office to the South South that we can have some sanity, understanding, and unity.

“I’m calling on Nigerians to know that politics is not about personal interest, it’s about self actualization within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development.

“Everything is predicated on Sacrifice not interest and of course we must always give allowance, respect each other, and power comes from God.

“So we are always available as governors, NWC, BoT to work towards making sure that PDP is a darling of Nigerians so that we can give everyone the political space or allowances to come and actualize their aspirations.”
