The President Donald Trump administration of the United States has placed an immigration ban on Nigeria and three other countries.
The ban also affects Eritrea, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan as the citizens of this country will no longe be allowed to apply for immigration to the US.
The policy is in terms with the objective to increase security against nations who do not meet minimum US security standards and are not as effective in cooperation to reduce illegal immigrants.
Two other countries, Sudan and Tanzania, will be barred from participating in the diversity visa lottery, which randomly awards green cards to 50,000 immigrants from underrepresented countries annually.

The new policy will take place from the 21st of February and only affects new applicants. Those who have had approved visas before said date will be allowed to immigrate.
Nigerians who seek visas for business or pleasure will still be allowed to travel as long as the purpose is not for immigration.
