Two ministers and several others have died after a military helicopter crashed on Wednesday in Ashanti region of Ghana.
The crash involved a Z9 Air Force helicopter and claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The aircraft was carrying eight people in total, three Air Force personnel and five government officials.
All on board were confirmed dead after the incident.
Recovery efforts are ongoing at the crash site.
The helicopter reportedly lost contact with radar before going down.
Authorities have not disclosed the specific location of the crash or the purpose of the flight, but the Z9 aircraft is often used by the military for transport and medical rescue operations.
While investigations are underway, early suggestions point to possible technical failure or weather-related issues as causes of the crash.
The government has expressed sorrow over the deaths and described the event as a major loss for the nation.
