UNIZIK Denies Student Died in Viral Video, Reveals Undisclosed Story Behind Incident

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has denied claims that a student died after jumping from a three-storey building near the campus.

The university clarified that the man seen in a widely circulated video was not a student, but a 28-year-old electrician named Kenneth Oyeaka Rapuchukwu from Aguleri.

According to a statement by the university’s Chief Safety Officer, Ken Chukwurah, the incident happened around 8pm on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Seat of Wisdom Lodge, close to the university’s main gate.

Witnesses said they heard a loud sound before finding the victim’s body in a pool of blood.

Initial reports suggested the deceased was a student, sparking online panic.

However, investigations revealed that Rapuchukwu was living in the lodge with a roommate named Chibuzor (surname unknown), and both were allegedly using an illicit substance before the incident.

The university said Rapuchukwu, likely under the influence, jumped headfirst from the third floor and died instantly.

His body has been taken to the Amaku mortuary, and Chibuzor is currently in police custody at B-Division Station to assist with ongoing investigations.

The university urged the public to disregard the misleading reports and await official information.
