The United States has announced the closure of its embassy in Abuja and consulate in Lagos on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The decision follows the public holiday declared by the Nigerian government in memory of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82 in a London hospital.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement about the holiday.
It is part of the national mourning period declared by the Federal Government to honour the late president.
As part of the tribute, flags across the country will fly at half-mast.
Following this development, the US Mission in Nigeria confirmed that both its offices in Abuja and Lagos will not open on the declared holiday.
It also mentioned that all visa appointments scheduled for that day will be moved to a later date.
