Nigerian activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has faulted President Bola Tinubu, the Dangote Group, and social media influencers following the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija winner, Phyna.
Ruth’s death was confirmed on Sunday in a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the Otabor family.
She had been undergoing treatment for severe injuries sustained after being hit by a Dangote truck near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Reacting in a video posted on social media, Verydarkman said those with influence failed to use their platforms to press for urgent intervention when Ruth was alive and in need of advanced medical care.
“Phyna’s sister has finally kpai, a lot of people are lending their voices to the RIP but when we needed those voices to pressure Dangote to do the right thing, 19 days was what she spent at the hospital but many refused to post because it won’t give them engagement… Nigeria has failed us. President Bola Tinubu, you have failed us all. And to Dangote Group, are you happy now? You had the time to take that girl abroad to treat her,” he said.
His remarks came hours after the Dangote Group released a condolence statement. The company said it had been responsible for all medical and financial expenses in partnership with its insurers since the accident.
Dangote Group also disclosed that arrangements had been made to fly Ruth abroad for further treatment in India but explained that the plan was awaiting her doctors’ clearance before she passed away.
