Family members have shared how former President Muhammadu Buhari spent his last moments.
According to ThisDay, the family revealed that he was in high spirits and looking forward to returning to Nigeria before his sudden death in London.
On Saturday, a day before he died, Buhari spoke with relatives, made arrangements for hotel bills of those who had travelled to support him, and was expecting to be discharged from the hospital within the week.
According to his nephew Mamman Daura, the former leader was cheerful and hopeful, showing no signs of the health crisis that followed.
By Sunday morning, he was awaiting a doctor’s visit when he began to experience breathing problems around midday.
Doctors at the London hospital tried to stabilize him, but he passed away later in the afternoon at the age of 82.
He said: “We were together on Saturday talking and laughing and Buhari was in high spirits in the London Clinic where he was admitted. We talked about everything. He even had the plan to depart for Nigeria upon his discharge this week and made sure that arrangements were made to sort out the hotel bills of everybody who was in London on his behalf before departing.
“I left him about 9pm on Saturday in high spirits and promised to see him on Sunday afternoon. He was looking forward to his doctor’s visit on Sunday morning.. But around midday, he started having breathing challenges and doctors rushed to his side to try and manage it. But unfortunately, around 4.30 pm, he gave up the ghost, “ THISDAY was told.
Buhari’s body is currently airborne to Nigeria after departing London.
He will be buried in Katsina, his home state, according to Islamic rites.
