Wike reveals who ordered his assassination
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that a plot to assassinate him was hatched during the 2019 general elections.
He claimed that the order came from a senior military officer acting on the directive of the then Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike made the disclosure in an interview on Thursday, where he recounted that the officer involved was General Saham, who at the time served as General Officer Commanding the 6 Division.
According to him, the plan was for the officer to carry out the shooting with the promise of being rewarded with an appointment as Chief of Staff.
The minister further stated that the order to eliminate him was given while he was still the sitting governor of Rivers State.
He alleged that when a colonel declined to obey the command, the officer was detained for six months.
Wike said this experience showed the kind of threats he faced during his time in office, adding that many opposition leaders now speaking about persecution never went through such situations.
He said:
“General Saham, former General Officer Commanding 6 Division, tried to kill me. Amaechi promised to make him the next Chief of Staff.
“General Saham ordered that I should be shot. When I heard that he is now in the NSA office, I refused to go there.
“General Saham ordered that as a sitting governor that I should be shot. And when the Colonel refused, he was detained for six months.”
