Wike takes action on Ganduje

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has slammed a N5 million fine on several prominent Nigerians and institutions, including former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, for unlawful conversion of properties in Abuja.

Others affected include former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the family of the late General Tunde Idiagbon,

The penalty was announced through a public notice in national newspapers, directing all affected persons to pay within 30 days, with September 10, 2025, as the deadline.

The sanction followed a review of land use conditions on 15 major streets in Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse 2, Garki 1 and Garki 2.

According to the FCT administration, Ganduje converted a residence in Wuse 2 into a banking hall without approval.

Idiagbon’s Maitama residence was turned into Serendib Hotel and Suites, while Oyinlola converted land at Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro, into Zhouyi Hotel.

Two former Chief Justices of Nigeria, Atanda Fatai-Williams and Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, were also fined for changing their approved residential properties into commercial outlets.

Other individuals listed included Senator Shehu Sani, former Governors Forum Director General Okauru Okauru, and retired military officer Lt. Gen. Rufus Kupolati, who converted residences into showrooms and a gym.

Former FCT minister Abba Gana, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), and the Nigeria Police were also sanctioned for similar breaches.

Wike further directed that new title documents be issued to the sanctioned property owners after they meet all conditions, with the updated land use valid for 99 years.
