Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has cautioned politicians nursing plans to manipulate the 2027 governorship election to rethink their intentions, stressing that only the will of God and the people will determine the outcome.
He gave the warning on Thursday during the October edition of Alex Otti Speaks to Abians at the Government House, Umuahia, in a session streamed on Channels Television’s YouTube page.
The governor stated that while he welcomes fair competition from any aspirant, anyone attempting to subvert the people’s mandate through electoral malpractice would face dire consequences.
“I’ve heard that some people are boasting they must take back this state, that they will just sit and write results,” Otti said. “My advice to them is simple — if they are so eager to write, they should start by writing their own will before that time.”
Otti made the comments in response to a question regarding recent statements attributed to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who had reportedly declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take control of Abia by 2027.
Otti reiterated that he has no issue with anyone vying for office but maintained that those plotting to manipulate the process would be dealt with decisively.
His remarks come amid increasing political activities and early alignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
Governor Otti, of the Labour Party, broke the Peoples Democratic Party’s more than 20-year hold on Abia State after his victory in the 2023 gubernatorial election.
