Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved an increase in the minimum wage for workers in the state.
The updated wage structure will see school teachers and primary healthcare workers receive an increase of ₦25,000, raising their monthly earnings from ₦20,000 to ₦45,000.
Other civil servants on Grade Levels 01 to 06 are set to receive an extra ₦10,000, taking their pay to ₦30,000.
Workers on Grade Levels 07 to 14 will now earn ₦45,000 following a ₦25,000 increase.
Those on Grade Level 15, who are entitled to one domestic staff, will receive ₦35,000 plus ₦10,000 for their aide, totaling ₦65,000.
Civil servants on Grade Level 16 with two domestic workers will get ₦45,000, with their aides receiving ₦20,000, pushing the total to ₦85,000.
In addition, pensioners under local governments will have their monthly pay raised by ₦10,000, in recognition of their service to the state.
The approval is seen as a move aimed at improving the lives of workers and retirees, especially those at the grassroots.
