A 65 year-old-man identified as Moses Airhiagbonkpa, fell to his death this morning within the premises of the Edo State High Court when he accidentally stepped into an elevator shaft.
According to reports, Airhiagbonkpa was at the 10th floor of the High court building with members of the Ugiekhue community to get a new date for a case involving his community, Ugiekhue community.
He had needed to use the bathroom and in a hurry to reach it had opened the door to a place he thought he could relieve himself in. It turned out Mr Airhiagbonkpa had stepped into an open shaft where the former elevator for the building was located.

The High court was undergoing renovation and part of the things being fixed was the elevator. The contractors removed the elevator with the hope of putting a new one as soon as possible.
“We used to have a lift that has gone bad and this administration is fixing it. The company carrying out the renovation work removed the old lift and is still working on it. We were told the man came to Court 10 and wanted to ease himself. He went to where the lift is and fell through. The MD of the contractor said there was a ribbon indicating no passage but that I cannot say anything about.” a staff said
