APC disqualifies federal lawmaker from primary election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified longtime lawmaker Wole Oke from taking part in the party’s primary election for the Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency seat in Osun State.
The decision was taken by the APC screening committee during the screening exercise held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Reports said the issue was connected to zoning within the federal constituency.
Some members of the committee were said to have supported the idea that the party’s ticket should go to Oriade Local Government Area instead of Obokun Local Government Area, where Oke comes from.
The development has ended Oke’s fresh attempt to return to the House of Representatives for another term.
Oke has represented the Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency for 24 years without interruption. If cleared to contest and win again, it would have been his seventh straight term in the National Assembly.
The lawmaker began his political journey in the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party before moving to the APC in 2025.
Despite his disqualification from the primary election, Oke still remains active in the party’s activities in Osun State.
He was recently named Director-General of the APC campaign council ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.
The governorship contest is expected to be between APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who is seeking another term in office.
