Tinubu makes fresh appointment

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Adedayo Laniyi as the new Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development for a four-year term.

The appointment became effective on April 18, 2026, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

The statement explained that the appointment followed the provisions of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.

The approval was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued through the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.

The statement, released by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, also confirmed that Tinubu approved the appointment of members of the Governing Council of the centre.

Princess Joan Jummai Idonije was named chairman of the council, while other members include Lois Auta, Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Princess Anne Agom-Eze.

The President congratulated the newly appointed Director-General and members of the Governing Council and wished them success in carrying out their responsibilities.

The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development was created to support women empowerment, gender equality, and the social and economic growth of women across Nigeria.

The centre also functions as a national institution focused on research, training, and advocacy programmes relating to women and development issues.
