The African entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of two popular actresses within 24 hours.
Veteran Kannywood actress Wasila Isma’il died at the age of 46 after battling illness for a long period, while Ghanaian actress and television personality Beverly Afaglo also passed away at 42.
Wasila’s death was confirmed on Sunday by her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, who disclosed that she died at the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria Hospital in Kaduna.
The actress was widely known in the Hausa movie industry and became famous after starring alongside Ali Nuhu in the movie Wasila.
The late actress started acting in 1998 and later became one of the recognised faces in Kannywood through several successful Hausa films.
Fans, actors and filmmakers flooded social media with tributes shortly after news of her death became public.
Hours later, the Ghanaian entertainment industry was also hit with another tragedy after news emerged that Beverly Afaglo had died at 42.
Her husband, musician Choirmaster, announced her death on Instagram. Although the cause of death was not revealed, reports said she had been unwell for some time.
Beverly Afaglo was known for her work in movies, television and business.
She acted in more than fifty films during her career and also built a successful shawarma business in Ghana. She featured in movies such as Babylon, The Game and The Agency.
Many celebrities and fans across Ghana and Nigeria have continued to mourn both actresses, describing their deaths as painful losses to the entertainment industry.
