Former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, has died at the age of 69.
Katagum, who served as deputy governor between 2018 and 2019 during the administration of former governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, reportedly passed away in the early hours of Saturday.
The news of his death was made public by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, a digital and creative media aide to the former governor.
In a statement released on Saturday, Lukman said the late politician died after years of service to his community, Bauchi State and Nigeria.
He noted that information about the burial arrangements would be announced later by the family and those handling the funeral plans.
Before becoming deputy governor, Katagum served as Chief of Staff at the Bauchi State Government House.
He was also a respected traditional title holder and held the position of Wazirin Katagum, a title that made him an influential figure within the Katagum Emirate.
Throughout his public life, he was known for his involvement in governance and community-related activities across Bauchi State.
Many people regarded him as a dedicated public servant who contributed to the development of his state through various roles in government and traditional leadership.
Katagum was the son of the late Alhaji Sule Katagum, a prominent Nigerian statesman who served as the first chairman of Nigeria’s Federal Public Service Commission. His father also held the traditional title of Wazirin Katagum during his lifetime.
The late former deputy governor is survived by his wife, children and other family members.
