Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) as part of an investigation into the fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
His lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, said Gbajabiamila honoured the ICPC invitation in compliance with President Tinubu’s directive for a full investigation into the scandal.
“My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post,” Ogunye said.
The probe followed allegations by the self-acclaimed PFIPC Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, that he paid N400 million to someone he believed was Gbajabiamila to secure an appointment letter for the non-existent agency.
Gbajabiamila has denied collecting any bribe, insisting he was the one who reported Adeyemi and the activities of the fake agency to the police.
Investigators are also probing how the fake agency allegedly secured office space at the Federal Secretariat, obtained budget allocations, opened Central Bank of Nigeria accounts and employed public servants despite not being legally established.
