Wike gives condition to resign as FCT minister

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will step down from office if anyone proves that his claims about road projects in Abuja’s satellite towns are false.

Wike made the statement during the commissioning of the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, where he spoke about the infrastructure projects carried out by the FCT Administration under President Bola Tinubu’s government.

The minister said the administration had awarded contracts for 317 kilometres of roads across satellite towns since Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023.

He added that 221 kilometres of the projects had been completed, while work was still ongoing on the remaining 96 kilometres.

He explained that the figures were only for satellite towns and did not cover all road projects within the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike also assured residents that the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa roads would be completed before the end of the year.

The former Rivers State governor said communities outside Abuja city centre had started seeing the impact of government projects, adding that development was being extended to areas that had received less attention in the past.

He challenged critics who disagreed with his claims to provide evidence against them within 48 hours.

Wike said he would leave his position as FCT minister if anyone was able to prove that the figures he presented were inaccurate.

The minister also praised President Tinubu and members of the National Assembly for supporting the FCT Administration’s infrastructure plans.

He said the administration would continue to focus on road construction and other projects aimed at improving living conditions across the territory.
