The abductors of billionaire businessman and Jezco Group Chairman, Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, father of Nigerian socialite Jowi Zaza, have reportedly increased their ransom demand to N1.5 billion.
Arise TV reported that the kidnappers initially demanded N700 million for Ezeokafor’s release, with the family reportedly prepared to negotiate for his freedom.
However, the abductors later increased the demand to N1.5 billion, according to a source close to the family.
The source also said communication between the family and the kidnappers had broken down despite the relatives’ willingness to continue negotiations.
Ezeokafor was reportedly abducted in the early hours of Tuesday while on his way to a prayer ground for his annual spiritual retreat.
He was said to have left his home around 2am without his security aides before he was abducted.
The development has caused concern among his family, associates and members of his community, while attempts to re-establish contact with the kidnappers have reportedly failed.
Neither the Anambra State Police Command nor the state government has publicly commented on the reported abduction, about a week after the incident.
Ezeokafor’s whereabouts and the latest efforts to secure his release remain unclear.
