APC Candidate Arrested
The Nigerian Navy has reportedly arrested the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidate for Atakumosa East/West Local Government Area of Osun State, Babatunde Komolafe Festus, over the alleged possession of a firearm, just two days before the state governorship election.
Komolafe was said to have been taken into custody on Thursday in Ifewara, his hometown, while travelling in an APC campaign vehicle with some supporters.
The incident reportedly occurred during a routine search carried out by Navy personnel in the area.
According to reports surrounding the incident, the security personnel searched the vehicle and allegedly found a rifle inside.
Komolafe and some of the people travelling with him were subsequently arrested and taken into custody for further investigation.
A video reportedly recorded after the arrest showed Navy personnel with the individuals who had been apprehended.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged firearm possession and who the weapon belonged to were not immediately clear.
The arrest happened shortly before the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
