The lawmaker representing Tudun Wada Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, Sule Shuwaki, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP.

Shuwaki announced his defection in a resignation letter presented to the Kano Assembly during plenary by the Speaker, Ismail Falgore.

The lawmaker said his decision followed consultations with his family, political associates and supporters.

His move came after he failed to secure the APC ticket to return to the state assembly.

He said he had decided to take a different political path based on his personal beliefs and consultations with people close to him.

Shuwaki also expressed appreciation to APC leaders at the ward, local government, state and national levels for the opportunity he had while he was a member of the party.

He explained that discussions with political associates had delayed the formal submission of his resignation letter.

Falgore disclosed that the leadership of the assembly had held several discussions with Shuwaki in an effort to convince him to reconsider his decision.

The lawmaker, however, proceeded with his move to the PDP.

Following the defection, the APC now has 37 members in the Kano State House of Assembly.

The New Nigeria People’s Party has two lawmakers, while the PDP has one member.
