Wike speaks on succeeding Tinubu in 2031
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has responded to speculation that his involvement in the Rainbow Coalition is part of a plan to contest the presidency in 2031.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting projects in Abuja on Monday, the former Rivers State governor dismissed the reports linking him to plans to succeed Tinubu after the 2027 election.
Wike said it was premature for anyone to conclude that he was preparing for the 2031 presidential race, adding that people should first consider whether they would be alive to participate in future political events.
He maintained that the reports about his alleged 2031 ambition were based on speculation and said he was not bothered by those making such claims.
He also identified three governors of the All Progressives Congress whom he said are against his Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike named Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as the APC governors he said have issues with the coalition.
Wike said the Rainbow Coalition was not opposed by several other APC governors, despite concerns raised in some quarters about the political platform and its activities.
According to the minister, the governors of Adamawa, Edo, Kogi, Lagos and Akwa Ibom states had no problem with the coalition. He also mentioned the Ondo State governor as being present at one of its activities.
