Popular businessman found dead in hotel room after planned meeting with NDC candidate
Prominent Anambra businessman and politician, Okey Ezeibe, has died in a hotel room in Imo State.
Ezeibe was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Motors, also known as Legacy Urban Peony Services Limited. He was also a former President and member of the Board of Trustees of the Balogun Business Association in Lagos.
According to reports, Ezeibe was in Imo State for a scheduled meeting with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in the state, Chief Martins Agbaso.
The businessman was initially expected to meet Agbaso over dinner, but the meeting could not hold after the NDC candidate travelled to Delta State for another engagement.
The two men reportedly agreed to meet the following morning over breakfast.
However, when Ezeibe did not leave his hotel room at the agreed time, his associates became concerned and knocked on the door.
After receiving no response, they reportedly forced the door open and found the businessman dead inside the room.
The cause of his death had not been officially confirmed at the time of the report, although information cited by TheNiche suggested that he may have suffered a heart attack.
Ezeibe was also known for his relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate.
In May 2026, Atiku travelled to Marrakech, Morocco, where he chaired the wedding ceremony of Ezeibe’s son, Muna Ezeibe, and Cherina, daughter of former Burkina Faso Prime Minister Lassina Zerbo.
Atiku had described his attendance at the ceremony as an honour to his longstanding personal friendship with Ezeibe, which he said dated back more than 45 years.
Ezeibe had also been involved in political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite his close relationship with Atiku, he was reportedly supporting the presidential ambition of Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, in the build-up to the election.
