The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nollywood actor Chijioke Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay.
The actor’s death was announced by his colleague, actress Nkechi Blessing, who shared videos and memories of their time together on Instagram.
Blessing revealed that she had spoken with Cjay around 8am before later receiving news that he had died.
She also cancelled the scheduled release of her movie, Egusi Ogbono, in which the late actor featured, following confirmation of his death from a hospital.
The actress had planned to release the movie at 5pm on Wednesday but decided to withdraw it in honour of Cjay.
The circumstances surrounding the actor’s death have not been made public.
His family and colleagues had also not provided further information about what led to his death as of the time of the report.

Another actor, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, expressed disbelief over the development, noting that he had recently communicated with Cjay.
Cjay began his acting career in 2021 and went on to appear in several Nollywood productions. Some of the films he featured in include Larry Cold, Mum Overnight and A Day to My Wedding.
The actor was an indigene of Anambra State.
