A Germany-returnee identified as Kelechi Nwigbo, has died after allegedly been struck by lightning in his hotel room in Ebonyi state.

The incident took place at a hotel behind Eke Market, Afipko. Upon checking into the hotel, Mr Nwigbo had demanded that he not be disturbed.

After 4 days, hotel management had begun to perceive foul odour emanating from his room and promptly called the police.

When officers broke into the room, Nwigbo was seen carrying a calabash with some money inside and with white cloth material on his head and waist. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Odah Loveth, confirmed the incident.

Hotel staff confirmed that they had heard the moment the lightning struck through his window but had not checked on him due to his prior instructions.
