A Federal High Court has rules that the Government should pay activist, Omoyele Sowore, the sum of N200,000 on Wednesday.

The order was made by Justice Ifeoma Ojukwu over the failure of the prosecution counsel Aminu Alilu, to serve the defendants with copies of the amended charge ahead of Wednesday’s proceedings.

This had led to a request for adjournment by the prosecution and stalling of the court processes.

They were subsequently fined N200,000 for the undue delay as the judge reasoned that they’d exhausted the five adjournments ntitled to under the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.

She accordingly awarded the cost of N200,000 against the prosecution in favour of the defendants in line with section 396 of ACJA.

The judge, thereafter, adjourned the trial to Thursday, February 13.

Meanwhile the court proceedings had kicked off with notable personalities as witnesses including Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, Senator Shehu Sani and activist Deji Adeyanju.

This is coming after Sowore and fellow activist Bakare were arrested last year due to planned #revolutionnow nationwide protests. They were released months later to stand trial for treason amongst other charges.
