I remain Lagos House of Assembly Speaker – Obasa

Embattled lawmaker Mudashiru Obasa has declared that he is still the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly despite his impeachment.

On January 13, the Assembly removed him over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office, following claims that he spent N17 billion on a gate for the Assembly complex.

Obasa, who was not present during the impeachment, returned to his Ikeja residence on Saturday, where he was met by loyal supporters.

He told reporters that he believes he remains Speaker and that any attempt to remove him must be done properly.

He added that as a Muslim, he believes in fate but expects the right procedures to be followed.

When asked if he plans to take legal action, Obasa hinted that the public would soon know more.

“My status in the house? I believe strongly I am still the speaker until the right thing has been done. If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way and I will not contest it.

“I’m a Muslim and I believe in fate. But let’s do it the way it should be done.”

“The Lagos State House of Assembly is above common standard of excellence.

“I appreciate the members of the governance advisory council (gac) and Governor Babajide Olusola Aanwo-Olu of the state. He is my brother and he always calls me his younger brother.”

When asked if a legal battle is in the offing, Obasa responded “You will know . It’s a matter of time. Thank you and God bless you.”
