Popular Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo, better known as E-Money, was released on Tuesday evening after being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He had been arrested the night before at his home in the Omole area of Lagos and taken to the EFCC office in Abuja.
The arrest was linked to allegations that he abused the Nigerian currency and defaced foreign currencies, specifically by spraying US dollars, which is considered a violation of the Foreign Exchange Act.
After his release, E-Money posted a video on Instagram thanking his supporters and saying there was no need to worry.
In the video, he appeared dressed regally, and gospel music played in the background.
Fellow socialite Cubana Chief Priest also celebrated E-Money’s release online. Although the EFCC has not officially confirmed his release, a source stated that E-Money was arrested over the currency violation and could face charges once investigations are complete.
