Sterling Bank To Give Nigerians ₦1 Million Monthly

Sterling Bank has launched a new initiative called AlwaysOn on its OneBank platform, allowing eligible customers to access up to ₦1 million every month even when their account balances are low.

Unveiled on Workers’ Day 2025, this feature is part of Sterling’s efforts to promote financial freedom and reduce barriers that limit access to money in urgent situations.

The bank says AlwaysOn is not a regular loan or credit offer.

Instead, it’s a special feature for trusted customers with active accounts, giving them quick financial support without the usual hassles of borrowing.

“This is about giving people the freedom to act when they need to,” said Abubakar Suleiman, CEO of Sterling Bank.

“We believe our customers deserve our trust and support, especially during tough times.”

AlwaysOn is currently by invitation only, but Nigerians are encouraged to join the waitlist as the feature will be rolled out more widely later this month.

This initiative follows other recent actions by Sterling to support its customers.

In April, the bank eliminated transfer fees on the OneBank app saving Nigerians around ₦13 billion.

They also offered free bus rides to workers during tough economic periods.

According to Obinna Ukachukwu, the bank’s Executive for Retail and Consumer Banking, these moves are part of Sterling’s commitment to being more than just a bank.

“We want to help Nigerians move forward, not just manage their money.”
