Minister Nyesom Wike has announced a full reconciliation between himself, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly after a high-stakes meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja late on Thursday.
The political catastrophe in Rivers, which began in October 2023 as a dispute over state control, escalated into the Assembly attempting to remove the governor.
This turmoil culminated in the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the lawmakers, leading President Tinubu to declare a six-month state of emergency on March 18, 2025, suspending Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire Assembly, and appointing Vice‑Admiral Ibokette Ibas as Sole Administrator .
Following separate reconciliation efforts including Fubara’s visits to Wike and to Tinubu this latest meeting achieved a breakthrough.
Wike said both he and Fubara are members of the same political family and have committed to working together in peace.
He said, “there’s no more acrimony” .
Fubara echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude to the president and pledging to sustain peace in Rivers State “by the special grace of God” .
