Court sack 2027 NDC candidate
The Federal High Court in Benin City, Edo State, has sacked Uyi Omosigho as the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency and declared Omo-Osagie Efosa, popularly known as Mighty Man, the rightful winner of the party’s primary election.
The judgment was delivered on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in a suit filed by Omo-Osagie against Omosigho, the NDC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party’s state chairman, David Olukoga, and the chairman of the state primary and nominations committees, Frederick Endorokeme Owotorufa.
In his ruling, Justice Chuka Obizor faulted the handling of pre-election disputes and raised concerns about actions that could prevent aspirants from getting justice.
The judge also noted that the use of internal party procedures to settle disputes could delay cases and make it difficult for aggrieved aspirants to seek legal redress.
After examining the evidence presented before the court, Obizor found that Omo-Osagie participated in the party’s primary election. His participation was confirmed by the returning officers and the chairmen of the 12 wards in Oredo Federal Constituency.
However, the court found that the party leadership failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove that Omosigho participated in and won the primary election.
The judge consequently ordered the NDC to recognise Omo-Osagie as the winner of the primary and submit his name to INEC as its candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency.
Reacting to the judgment, Omo-Osagie described the ruling as a victory for the rule of law and thanked the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, for his support.
He also urged other aspirants in the party to work together ahead of the general election to improve their chances of winning the Oredo Federal Constituency seat.
