Oyo governor hands over power to deputy


Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has handed over power to his deputy, Bayo Lawal, as he prepares to begin a one-month leave on Friday, August 29, 2025.

The handover was contained in a letter sent to the Oyo State House of Assembly and read during plenary on Tuesday.

The letter, written in line with constitutional provisions, notified lawmakers of the governor’s leave and confirmed that Lawal would serve as acting governor throughout the period.

According to the notice, Lawal will assume office from August 29 and remain in charge until Makinde returns on September 29, 2025.

The House of Assembly acknowledged the communication and pledged support to ensure smooth governance in the governor’s absence.

The Assembly is expected to reconvene on September 16, while the governor is scheduled to resume duty on September 29.
