The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced that former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will contest as its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made during the party’s 9th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
The party’s leadership described Kwankwaso as its choice to lead Nigeria, citing his past roles as governor, minister, diplomat, and 2023 presidential candidate.
They noted that the NNPP is gaining ground with its plans focused on citizens’ welfare and progressive ideas.
Kwankwaso, in his remarks at the meeting, dismissed claims that he was planning to dump the NNPP for another political platform.
He stressed that the meeting was not about defection but about strengthening the party.
He also said that while the NNPP is not desperate, it is willing to engage other political actors, provided such talks are carried out collectively.
The party also commended the performance of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, stating that his leadership reflects the vision of the NNPP for the country.
