Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, citing security concerns for lawmakers.
President Tinubu had directed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to redeploy officers from non-essential duties, including VIP escorts.
Speaking during the President’s visit to the National Assembly on Friday, Akpabio said some legislators feared they might be unable to return to their constituencies safely.
“They could be exposed to danger. On that note, we plead with you, Mr President, to kindly review the decision,” he said.
Akpabio also noted that insecurity remains a major challenge and urged stronger cooperation between the executive and legislature to protect lives and strengthen national security.
