The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that Tuesday, 23 September 2025, will be a public holiday in honour of the state’s 38th anniversary.
The declaration was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, who explained that government offices and public institutions will not open on that day.
Governor Umo Eno also extended good wishes to residents and citizens, encouraging them to celebrate in peace.
Akwa Ibom was created from Cross River State on 23 September 1987 during the administration of former military president, Ibrahim Babangida.
The oil-rich state, which has a population of over five million people, is well known for its culture, cuisines such as Afang and Edikang Ikong, and its growing economic influence in the South-South region.
Every year, the anniversary is marked with different activities, including a church service and a state banquet, and this year is expected to follow the tradition.
