Two factions have emerged in the Anambra chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra ahead of the governorship election in the state scheduled for 2025.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state is presently enmeshed in crisis over the emergence of two factions.

The crisis was first revealed by a former governor of the state and the immediate past minister of labour and employment, Senator Chris Ngige.

In a recent interview with a national newspaper, Ngige said the party has been segregated into APC 1, consisting of foundational members, and APC 2, composed of new entrants.

The party recently welcomed Senator Ifeanyi Ubah from the Young Progressives Party and Senator Uche Ekwunife, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, into its fold.

Already, there are rumours that Ubah and Ekwunife are planning to team up to clinch the governorship and deputy governorship tickets of the party ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial polls in the state.

Ngige, however, called for the party to unite, noting that that is the only way to win the forthcoming governorship poll.

Also speaking on the matter, Dr George Moghalu, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and former National Auditor of APC, stated that he and other foundational members won’t allow ‘strangers’ destroy the party.

His words: ”Someone just left his or her former party to join another party just for the selfish purpose of getting the ticket of that party.

”What that implies is that those people have not come into the APC to help build the party but just to contest election, and win or lose; they will certainly leave the party and return to where they were before.

”At the moment, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not made public the timetable for the 2025 Anambra governorship election, but people are already meeting and angling to become the candidate as if the party was empty and had no members who are nursing similar ambition.

”That is why some people have started creating confusion and crisis within the party.

”They want to leverage on the division for their selfish interest, and you think that the foundation members of the APC would be watching without doing anything.

”When we get to the bridge, we shall always figure out how to cross it because our members are not apolitical, and they are getting wiser by the day. So, when the time comes, all those posturing would be a thing for the history books.”

Meanwhile, there are rumours that more heavyweights in the state are preparing to join the APC.

Dockaysworld gathered that a former House of Representatives PDP member will soon announce his entrant into the APC.

Also, a former minister who served in the Goodluck Jonathan administration is reportedly gearing up to join the APC ahead of the 2025 polls.
