Court sacks traditional ruler
A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sacked Prince Bayo Iginla as the Olu of Iju Ishaga.
He was removed over his disobedience to a court order and failure to follow proper selection procedures.
The judgment came after Chief Adams Akande Balogun, Mr. Bashiru Alamu Balogun, and Mr. Rasheed Adewole Balogun filed a suit claiming that their family, the Arayomi Aiyeteru Ruling House, was next in line to produce the traditional ruler.
They challenged the approval and installation of Prince Iginla by the Lagos State Executive Council, saying it was done while a court order to stop all actions was still active.
Justice L.A.M. Folami ruled that the installation was done in clear disobedience of the court’s earlier directive and described the act as contempt.
The court found that those behind the installation acted in bad faith by going ahead with the process during an ongoing case.
The court went on to cancel the state government’s approval, nullify the installation, and barred Prince Iginla from presenting himself as the Olu of Iju Ishaga.
Government officials involved in the matter were also ordered to stop giving him any form of recognition.
All parties were given 14 days to show proof that they have obeyed the judgment.
