Deputy Governor set for impeachment

Deputy Governor set for impeachment

The deputy governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam, may be impeached due to fresh political plans linked to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s move to leave the New Nigeria Peoples Party and join the All Progressives Congress in January 2024.

The move is said to be part of a wider deal to secure strong support for the governor as he prepares to enter the ruling party.

Sources told Daily Nigerian that the governor is already working with top APC leaders in Kano, and one of the key conditions placed before him is the removal of the deputy governor.

In his place, the governor is proposing the APC deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Murtala Sule-Garo, as the likely replacement.

At the same time, the APC governorship flagbearer in that election, Nasiru Gawuna, is being lined up to contest for the Kano Central Senate seat in 2027.

Abba Yusuf’s defection is expected to end his long political journey with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who mentored him for many years.

With Yusuf as the only NNPP governor, his defection is set to remove the party from the list of state-controlling parties in Nigeria.

It was learnt that the governor wants to take part in the APC congresses coming up in February so he can fully build his control within the party in Kano.
