A High Court in Enugu State has sentenced self-acclaimed prophet Godwin Ajuluchukwucheya, popularly known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, to one year in prison for defrauding his church members of N136.4 million.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and stealing before Justice H. O. Eya.
The court sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of a N500,000 fine. It also ordered the forfeiture and sale of his landed property to compensate victims.
According to the EFCC, the convict falsely claimed he had won N30 billion in a lottery and persuaded church members to contribute money with the promise of sharing the proceeds.
Investigators said he also sold so-called prosperity items, including “miracle stickers,” “spiritual dragons,” and “holy ghost thunder,” while claiming he could perform miracles.
The EFCC said the case followed petitions from victims, some of whom alleged they paid millions of naira for fake spiritual interventions, including promises to raise the dead, restore missing relatives, and help childless women conceive.
