The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, 27 May 2026 and Thursday, 28 May 2026 as public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Adha celebrations across Nigeria.
The announcement was made through the Ministry of Interior by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The notice was issued in Abuja and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The government said the holiday is to allow Muslims in Nigeria and around the world to observe the festival, which is tied to sacrifice, obedience to God, and care for others. It noted that the decision reflects respect for the religious values of Muslim faithful in the country.
The minister sent greetings on behalf of the Federal Government to Muslims in Nigeria and those in the diaspora, wishing them a peaceful celebration.
The government also called on Nigerians to use the period for prayer and reflection for the country, asking for peace, safety, and better living conditions for citizens as the nation continues its development efforts.
It added that the celebration should promote unity among citizens and peaceful coexistence among different religious groups in the country.
